PolicyLab researchers Alex Fiks, Stephanie Mayne, James Guevara and colleagues published an article, Shared Decision-Making and Health Care Expenditures among Children with Special Health Care Needs, in the journal Pediatrics. The study found that increasing shared decision-making between patient families and providers was associated with decreased utilization of health care services and significantly lower health care costs among children with special health care needs.
