PolicyLab announces our latest Evidence to Action brief, Tracking Child Abuse and Neglect: The Role of Multiple Data Sources in Improving Child Safety. While child protective services data show a decline in rates of child abuse and neglect, hospital data indicate that the rates of the most severe cases of abuse are increasing. To address this disconnect, this brief provides an overview of data collection systems and identifies strategies to improve tracking of child abuse and neglect cases.
PolicyLab is pleased to announce our latest Evidence to Action brief, SERIES: An Integrated Approach to Supporting Child Development, highlighting our recent work on developmental screenings for young children. Although developmental screening of children in primary care settings has increased, many children with identified developmental needs are never linked to appropriate services.
To improve child outcomes, the brief proposes the adoption of the SERIES paradigm of developmental screening in which each step—Screening, Early identification, Referral, Intake, Evaluation, and Services—is viewed not as an isolated activity, but rather as an integral component of a single process.
