PolicyLab’s Cody Dashiell-Earp and Sarah Zlotnik examine the increased use of psychotropic medication in children in foster care in an article published in the American Public Human Services Association (APHSA)’s Policy & Practice magazine. The article entitled “Psychotropic Medications And Children in Foster Care” highlights the key issues, state initiatives, and research findings related to the use of psychotropic medication and focuses on alternative evidence-based treatments for children with behavioral health issues. This review stems from the discussion at the healthcare portion of the November 2010 Policy Summit, organized by the National Association of Public Child Welfare Administrators (NAPCWA), PolicyLab, and the Fostering Connections Resource Center at Child Trends.
